Welcome to

the South!

Our aim is to gather the churches in Dorset and the surrounding counties and those who come from further afield to encourage them with solid Bible teaching. We bring in guest speakers from the UK and other countries to open up God's Word and help us apply it to our situation. Our events are all shapes and sizes, ranging our biennial Men's Convention day to Summer Convention which traditionally takes place every weekday in the first week of July.

Starting in 1993 with Rev. RT Kendall as our speaker, the Bournemouth Bible Week began as the Bournemouth and Poole Convention. The goal: to have a week in the year dedicated to sound Bible teaching which would bring together the churches in the South Western counties.  The Conventions we have run have chosen many different speakers from the UK and internationally, helping all who attend to understand how God’s word applies to us today whatever our situation.

An equally important objective is to provide an opportunity for churches to deepen their fellowship and get to know other churches in the area plus brothers and sisters from all over the country. We believe strongly that unity under the Gospel, led by God’s Word, is the way in which His kingdom can have a strong impact in our society today.

2020 gave us the opportunity to revamp our conventions to engage with a fresh generation. So, a new name was born – “The Bournemouth Bible Week”. The name may have changed but the goals remain the same - “Gathering the Churches, Preaching the Word”.

Morning Speaker
Dr Chris Sinkinson

Lecturer in Biblical & Theological Studies at Moorlands College

Chris Sinkinson originally studied Philosophy and English before going on to complete an MA and PhD in Theology. His PhD was on Christian responses to the World Religions and the theology of John Harwood Hick, a renowned British born philosopher of religion and theologian.

Chris also has a great interest in archaeology and the Bible. He has been involved in the Bethsaida Excavations Project in the Galilee and has published in this area. His interest in apologetics motivates much of his study in areas related to the historicity of the Bible and contemporary culture.

Having been the senior pastor of Alderholt Chapel in Dorset for over ten years, Chris now lectures for BA and MA students at Moorlands College at Christchurch, Dorset, in Old Testament Studies and Apologetics and regularly leads student tours to Israel as a sort of modern day “Evangelical Indiana Jones”.

Chris’s presentations include fascinating recollections of some exciting excavations he has taken part in, along with why the Bible is so important to him.

Chris is married to Ros, herself a Youth and Community worker in a local church. Together they have two children and a West Highland Terrier. Chris speaks at both local churches and national events..
